    Description

Sulawesi Toraja "White Eagle" Arabica Coffee
    Cup Characteristics
This Arabica Sulawesi Toraja White Eagle coffee is from the Island of Sulawesi, Indonesia and cups as an earthy, mouth-filling beautiful coffee with pronounced aromatics of tobacco and exotic earth notes. Sturdy, pronounced but not overbearing body. Extraordinarily smooth with big body, low acidity, and balanced well.
The Sulawesi Toraja "White Eagle" Semi-Washed Grade 1 coffee is the extremely rare coffee of the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia.
In one of the most remote coffee growing areas anywhere in the world, far in the interior of Toraja, the most exclusive of all Toraja coffees "White Eagle" is grown.
The coffee is grown by the oldest and original Toraja trees which can be only found here and in some remote original areas in Ethiopia. These original Typica trees are small, produce their first coffee only after 5 years in the ground and their yield is very loaw at less than 150 kilos per year. Many of these trees are original and date back morethan 250 years and therefore well before the Dutch landed on the island.
The coffee trees are fully shaded, not by shade trees, but by the virgin jungle. The White Eagle coffee is as sustainable as it can get! The beans are relatively small but have a unique flavor not found in any other Toraja coffee, which is derived from newer variety planting such as Linie-S and a new variety of Berg enDaal (Typica)
The areas is so remote without any possible dirt roads that it takes as long as 4 days on horseback to bring the coffee down from the mountain from where the coffee is transferred by motorcycles and small pickup trucks for further transportation to Makassar.
Upon arrival at our facilities in Makassar, the White Eagle is kept completely separate from all other coffees as the Crown Jewel of all the Toraja Arabica's. Only 300-600 bags can be produced each crop year of this truly superb and outstanding coffee.
The island of Sulawesi is unique within the Indonesian Archepello of over 17,000 islands. it has over 200 indigenous bird species and countless indigenous flora and fuana. In addition, Toraja has a unique culture with many different tribes and customs. It is a favorite spot for National Geographic as well as ecotourism.
Many coffee buyers from all over the world are stunned by its exquisite beauty and coffee culture in full harmony with nature Once high on the mountain slopes, one can admire the terraced rice patios up to 6,000 feet high in between coffee trees and vrgin jungle all he way down the valley to 1,000 ft. In our opinion this is one of the most beautiful coffee growing areas in the world.
Lavanta Coffee Roasters is a 2nd generation coffee company focusing on Specialty Coffees.  Started by an immigrant who worked extremely hard to earn his citizenship, Lavanta Coffee initially was focused to put bread on the table.  After a few years of hard work, Lavanta hired additional personnel to assist with the increased workload and graduated to have 5 roasters spread over it's 3 global roasting facilities.  Lavanta now focuses on giving back to it's origin farmers by offering Direct Trade, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance & Organic coffees as well as puts an extra emphasis on sourcing from women coffee farmers.
Today the Lavanta Group moves over 1.6 million pounds of coffee on an annual basis to 6 continents however keeps our original 100+ year old roaster, a 4 oz coffee roaster, to remember where it all began.  All of our coffees are roasted to order by the Founder's direct family members and are guaranteed fresh.  Our officers continually travel the globe to ensure that every container of coffee purchased by the Group is fairly sourced, properly processed and guaranteed fresh.
Unlike many of our competitors who sell coffee from a garage or are just resellers, we have enclosed a copy of our Department of Health Certificate to show that our 7,000+ square foot facility is a fully approved food licensed facility.  Every one of our employees are required to take food safety handling tests to ensure safe and proper handling of your coffees.  What this means is that hats or hairnets are required, no direct contact with the beans are allowed, and all sanitary standards exceed the Department of Health requirements.  Additionally our scales are tested by the State on a regular basis to ensure accurate weights & measures.
We thank you for supporting our Direct Trade Coffees and guarantee you will enjoy our coffees or your money back!
