    Description

Formed in 1881, the Oregon and Transcontinental Company assumed a significant role in Northern Pacific Railroad (NPR) affairs for the next decade by building branch lines. On September 15, 1883, the first regularly scheduled NPR transcontinental passenger train to Portland arrived by way of the Oregon Railway & Navigation’s (OR&N) tracks from Wallula, Washington, about two hundred miles up the Columbia River.
Brayton Ives was president of Northern Pacific Railway from 1893 to 1896 and was president of the New York Stock Exchange and the Western National Bank of New York. He also served as an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
